Bucurešti, 3-3-2005

Friday 26-2 till Sunday 28-2 butler with sorted boards.

You had to bid game, every finesse did work out fine.

When we saw this pattern, we reached the B-final.

Trick1: A

Trick2: A and yes, K was bare with West.

1 -Trick conceded, West had K Q x.

So 2 spades were discarded on 2 -Tricks, 6 made.

-suit was divided 3-1 and -suit 3-3, so making the contract was no problem.

On some tables East overcalled 4, South 4 and West Dbl.

Now North can bid 4NT, for the minors.

Because when 4 is doubled, 4NT is not Blackwood any more. You reach also 5.

The reason that North (Louis) called 4 was the convincing than game had to be reached, not the wonderful hand.

North wanted to call 1, the minors provide some tricks. But 9 points are not much.

After 1 from South 1NT is 6-9 points. With this distribution 2 is the better answer.

South should pass 1NT.

The are 3-2; and if South plays 3NT west leads a . So 3NT is the game.

In this bidding West had a light overcall of 2.

East doubled 5, but is placed before South who introduced the diamonds.

So trumps will be finessed.

So West called 5, and went 4 down, minus 800 because East had no entrees.

The defence: A, 2 -Tricks, ruffed were the first four tricks.

And A Q were made.

East had A K J 10 5. This was a good double on 5.

A board we didn’t handle well:

2NT: 10+ points with 4-card

3 and 5 were control bids.

We now know what was the right sequence.

South bids 4NT, not 3, North 5, 2 Aces.

South bids 5NT, North 6, no Kings.

South bids 6 asking something extra in this suit.

North accepts and bids 7. 7, 7, 7NT are easy contracts, 13 Trick from top.

Greetings from Louis, the dutch player.
