Aggressive doubles in pairs, but play them down!
Since I wrote an artikel about double in pairs, for the magic 200, we were doubled yesterday 6 times. That’s 25% of all boards. And because from these 24 we played 12 ourselves 50% of our contracts. These 6 contracts had to go down all, but in 5 of the 6 cases we made them.
We can therefore conclude that the defence has to be improved at Atomic.
I will describe 2 boards.

It has to be possible for NS to cash 5 tricks. North leads
A, south plays
6 (discouraging).
North plays
K, South plays
J, high for
-signal. After that 3
-tricks van be cashed.
On this board
K lead,
A and
were played. That can’t be good play. West must have a
-stop. Then came 7 times
in North 2
were discarded.
We scored 3NT dbl +2 that’s 1150 (I didn’t know).

?? If North bids 4
at once South must pass if he has
or bid 4
if he has
.
If North bids 2NT (strong) and South responds
then this suit is agreed.
North inventd 2
(weak) supposing South had a 6-crd
.This was a new experience for us after the multi. East started
A and played
Q for the
K from North. The continuation of
A was ruffed by East. Sir West laughed laudly, this is not decent.
If East playes
Q the contract cannot be made, but because North had promised to be weak, played
Q. North won with
K, ruffed a diamand with
7 and played
Q.
West plays
H and North ruffs with
8. East ruffs higher and again playes
for
K.
On the high
J North discards his losing
.East ruffs again, but only becomes 2 ruffs and
A . Well, I can laugh about that. I actually did, which is not decent.
I won’t do it again, that’s a promise.
Louis, the dutch player.
