after strong 2NTs

after various sequences ending with a 2NT which shows a strong balanced hand: stayman (NO puppet) + reverse smolen, transfers, 3S stayman for minors, 4C/D = natural SI, 4H/S = to play.

"suspect" sequences

NONE left.

End of strict polish club sequences.

Other agreements, unrelated to polish club style.

after 1D opening

  • 1D - 3C = MIXED raise
  • 1D - 2C -
    • 2D = any minimum hand (may have only 4 diamonds). then 3C by responder is NF
    • 2H/S = natural, extras (14-17, 54). GF
    • 2NT = natural, extras. GF
    • 3C = fit 4+, extras (14-17) or fit 5 minimal
    • 3D = natural, extras. GF
    • 3H/S = fit 4+, splinter, extras
    • 3NT = BAL 14 HCP, some club support (minimum Hxx)
  • 1D - 2C - 2D - 2M - 3NT* = fit 4 in M + stopper in the other suit
  • 1D - 1M - 3D = natural (~15-17 HCP, one suiter) + FIT3
  • 1D - 1M - 2NT = like 3D but denies FIT3
  • inverted minor raise. after this, 2H/S shows values but not extras. further 2NT and 3D from both sides may be passed.

double checkback

  • 1m - 1H - 1NT - 2S = 44 majors INV
  • 1m - 1M - 1NT - 3-other-suit = 55 INV
  • 1m - 1M - 1NT - 2NT = club transfer (weak) OR 55 GF

after 1M opening

  • forcing 1NT
  • 2/1 is GF except when a opener does NOT show extra-values and reponder rebid his minor. 1S - 2H is always GF.
  • 1M - 2/1 - 2M = stall bid; anything above this level shows extra-values from opener (and creates GF)
  • 1M - 2C = natural 2/1 or balanced GF
  • 1M - 2D = natural 2/1, 5+cards
  • fit 3 INV: jump in first suit 1H-2S, 1S - 3C
  • fit 4 INV: jump in second suit 1H - 3C, 1S - 3D
  • fit 4 MIXED: jump in 3rd suit (just below fit): 1H - 3D, 1S - 3H
  • after any of the above jumps, relay=ask for shortages. Major rebid=no shortage; suits=singleton; NT=short in upper suit
  • fit 4 GF: 2NT. natural developments (level 3 suits, level 4 splinters)
  • reverse drury fit

after 1NT opening

  • stayman, 4 suits transfers. garbage stayman.
  • 3C/D = weak/strong 55 minors
  • 3H/S = SINGLETON, 5431. GF
  • lebensohl, fast denies stopper
  • take-out doubles
  • DONT style escapes from 1NT doubled

after 2C (precision style) opening

  • 2D = relay, ask –> 2H/S=natural, 2NT=maximal club one suiter, 3C=minimal club one suiter
  • 2H/S = natural, INV, NF
  • 2NT = weak club fit or 55 GF
  • 3C = club fit
  • 3D = nat, GF (?)
  • 3H/S = nat, INV (?)
  • 2C - 2NT* - 3C (forced) -
    • 3D = D+H
    • 3H = H+S
    • 3S = S+D
  • 2C - 2D - 2M - 3D* = GF with with in major

after 2D bad multi

  • 2NT = relay, ask. –> 3C=maximal H, 3D=maximal S
  • 3C = transfer to 3D. responder wants to show own suit and create a GF.
  • 4C = ask opener to TRANSFER in his suit
  • 4D = ask opener to BID his suit
  • 4H/S = STOP, to play, responder is not interested in opener suit

In competition: 2D - (something) - a minor at level 3 = natural, competitive, NF.

after 2H/S good weak two

  • 2NT = ask FEATURE
  • suits = natural, GF

after our preempts

  • after level 3 PRE, new suit = suit + fit (?)
  • after level 4 PRE, new suit = control asking (anti-CUE)
  • after 3C, 3D forces 3H. then, responder may
    • pas in 3H
    • bid 3S which is INV
    • bid 4C which is GF fit
  • when we preempt and it’s obvious we can’t play 3NT, 3NT is “save suggesting” while a fit in preemptor suit is just “push bid”.

competitive sequences

  • rubens advances after our overcall. exceptions:
    • after balancing overcalls –> natural
    • opps raise their suit directly (or bid above that level) –> natural (not enough space for rubens)
    • after (1D) - 2C - (p) - 2D = ask, as after 2C opening precision style. 2H/S are NF, INV!. 2NT=nat, INV
  • transfers similar with Rubens after we overcall with 1M and answer 1NT:
    (1m) - 1M - (p) - 1NT
(p ) - #-> transfers from CUE to suit rebid
  • frequent “good-bad 2NT” sequences
  • support doubles and redoubles - limit: only if 2 in responder major in not bypassed
  • multi-landy over opps NT
  • transfers after 1M - (X) starting with 1NT → clubs
  • special sputnik doubles:
    • 1x - (1H) - 1S = 4+ cards. DBL here DENIES 4 spades!
    • 1C - (1D) - 1H/S = 4+ cards. DBL here shows 4-4 majors
  • leaping michaels

balancing

  • 1NT = ? 11-14 ?
  • jump = ? 10-13 HCP, good 6 card suit
  • balancing 2NT after level 2 opening by opps = 15-18 ?

in 4th position

  • ? after (1x) - p - (1NT), DBL is takeout at opened suit
  • ? after weak notrump and 2C stayman, DBL is cards (not clubs)
  • ? after opps 2C drury, DBL is takeout to opened major (not clubs)
  • ? after (1x) - p - (1y)
    • DBL = takeout
    • 1NT = ?
    • 2x = ?
    • 2y = ?
    • 2NT = ?

slam tools

  • RKCB 14-30

leads and signals

  • ATT encouraging with low
  • standard count (hi-low = even number of cards)
  • usually, K lead ask count, A and Q ask ATT
  • lead 4th at notrump, 3/5 at suit
  • first discard: italian

proposals

WARNING: we DO NOT play this yet!

  • after 3m preempt - first step relay, ask if the minor is good for 3NT. opener answer 3S (transfer to 3NT) if the minor is at least HHx. 3NT shows a good fit in the relay “suit”.
    • 3D - 3H* -
      • 3S = good diamonds for 3NT
      • 3NT = heart fit
      • 4D = crap
